The Sony Ericsson C905 represents the next level of camera phone that we have all been waiting for. Since the introduction of the Nokia N95 the mobile phone market has seemed content to stay at the five megapixel barrier. Even the Nokia N96 remains at that level. But the Sony Ericsson C905 not only passes that barrier, it also stops, turns around and smashes it just because it wants to.
Before we get to the 8 megapixel camera, we should take a look around the exterior of the C905. It's a sleek slide phone that utilises a 2.4 inch QVGA TFT display that is covered with scratch resistant glass. The keypad on the handset will look familiar to anyone who has used a K800i, though thankfully on the C905 the buttons are slightly larger and easier to use.
They are also totally even and don't have the tilt that the keys on the K800i used to have. In fact most of the buttons on the C905 are highly tactile and are highly responsive; this includes the two shortcut keys above the screen. The key on the left shows the last photo you have taken while the right hand key launches the image gallery.
These keys also double up to open the shooting mode and the scene mode respectively. The whole build quality of the C905 is excellent and the handset has a really luxurious feel, for even more added convenience Sony Ericsson have included a volume rocker and additional camera keys on the side of the C905. These certainly make changing function from taking a call to taking a photo very easy.
Features of the Sony Ericsson C905 The cell phone comes with the 8 mega pixel digital camera along with other great digital camera equipment. Similar to almost pro level point and shoot cameras, the C905 phone comes with auto focus, an image stabilizer, a Xenon flash, a red eye reducer, and video calling.
The quality of pictures that can be taken with the C905 is simply amazing, not only for a cell phone but for higher end digital cameras as well. The images are crystal clear, and users have a fair amount of control over the contrast and resolutions of the pictures. The picture taking capabilities are not the only thing about this phone that makes it stand out. The Sony Ericsson C905 also functions as an MP3 player and as an FM radio. It features a satellite GPS system that comes with Google maps, which is a free application that is included on the phone. Another interesting feature of the Sony Ericsson C905 is the Wi-Fi connectivity.
When you turn the Wi-Fi on, it will give you a list of nearby hot spots to use. It only takes a single click to connect to the Internet. The phone also comes with instant messaging and an RSS feed along with email capability. The Appearance of the Sony Ericsson C905 The Sony Ericsson C905 has a TFT QVGA display screen that measures 2.4inches with a scratch resistant glass cover that also serves as the view finder for the camera. It has a thickness of 18mm - 19.5mm, which is not small compared to other cell phones.
Considering all the capabilities this phone has, it is not overly large and one has to remember that this is not a smart phone but is advertised as a camera phone. The actual phone measures 104 x 49 x 18mm, and weighs in at 136 grams. The phone is made in both silver and black to give it a cool modern feel. The cell phone features a completely flat keypad that is easy to type on and does not tend to get stuck which has been a problem with similar keypad styles.
To use the keypad you must slide the cover open on the phone which provides easy and quick access to the keypad and function buttons. On the left side of the C905 you can find a memory card slot for your digital pictures.
The slot takes a M2 memory card which assists in storing extra pictures on your camera. The left hand side of the cell phone contains the volume controls, a camera shutter key, and a camera function button for easy control of the phone.
